Discover our diving specialties
If you're interested in expanding on your basics, at Paradise Divers we teach all the specialty diving courses offered by PADI and SSI. Though there are many specialty courses you can do with us here on Utila, below are some examples of the most popular picks for recreational divers.
EANX - Nitrox
Diving with enriched air allows us to prolong our times under water by breathing in a higher percentage of oxygen and a lower percentage of nitrogen. This can significantly reduce the risk of decompression sickness.
In the Nitrox specialty diving course, you'll learn to dive with a hyperoxic mixture to enjoy more time under the water and take your time observing each detail of your favorite reef or shipwreck!
- Witnessing marine life that is only active at the night
Night Diving
Night diving is an especially memorable experience for many divers. And while there are various reasons to dive during the night, we can identify the four biggest reasons for the appeal of night dives:
- Discovering a known site through a new perspective- The sensation of being in outer space inside the water
- Experiencing new colors and bioluminescence
- Witnessing marine life that is only active at the night
Underwater Navigation
Divers navigating through open water with compasses. The specialty course for underwater navigation is one of the most important foundations of diving that is actually easily learned and applied through a few key principles and practices.
Learn to navigate underwater so you can enjoy your dives more peacefully, knowing that you will have no problem finding your bearings and the way back to the boat or shore.
Wreck Diving
The boat wreck diving specialty class is extremely popular among divers because it is a unique experience among underwater environments. A sunken ship represents human loss and the power of nature, and this impact is reinforced by the fact that shipwrecks quite often turn into artificial reefs that abound with marine life.
Our wreck diving specialty course will teach you how to navigate in and around a wreck without getting lost, and how to safely explore the confined spaces within the wreck. We will do our internship at the Halliburton wreck, a 100 feet/30 meters-long wreck in Utila's waters.
Deep Diving
Deep diving are dives that range from 18 meters to 40 meters (60 feet / 130 feet), for recreational divers. With the deep diving specialty course you can experience entering the ocean at the limit depth for recreational diving, and understand better the physics of diving, including all safety precautions and considerations.
This specialty diving certificate will allow you to dive 40 meters deep anywhere in the world!
Underwater Digital Photography
Underwater photography is one of the most popular and most interesting specialty diving courses. You will learn how to make the most out of underwater photography, for instance by learning how to frame the angles or how to take advantage of the rays of light. You will also learn which camera systems are best suited for good underwater photography and how to handle your buoyancy with photography equipment at depth.
